The GroundBreaker Ultra *

A solo, unsupported 850-mile run from John O’Groats to Land’s End. 17 days one runner. Every mile raises funds for SummitCraft’s outdoor leadership programme.

The Challenge

850 MILES · 17 DAYS · 1 RUNNER

The route runs from John O’Groats to Land’s End, averaging roughly 50 miles a day. It is completed alone and without a support crew or resupply vehicles every mile is covered under the runner’s own steam. Built on a foundation of nine completed ultramarathons, including a 146-mile event and a sub-24-hour 100-mile finish.

The Route

A 17-stage day-by-day plan covers the full route, averaging roughly 50 miles a day. The Scottish Highlands in the opening days are the toughest stretch of the challenge, running through remote terrain early in the effort.

Stage 1: Northern Scotland

Stage 2: Southern Scotland

Stage 3: Northern England

Stage 4: Southern England

Stage 5: Southeast England to Finish

An experienced ultra runner

Jesse brings a proven ultra-endurance record to this challenge:

Community Impact

Where the impact happens

The community impact of The GroundBreaker Ultra is delivered after the challenge is complete. Funds raised go toward SummitCraft CIC’s outdoor leadership programme, the service young people who are NEET actually receive.

An important distinction

The 17-day run itself is undertaken solely by the runner. The programme for young people sits entirely outside it, delivered by SummitCraft CIC once the challenge is complete and funds are in a clear, honest structure for partners and the public alike.

Make a Difference to Our Work

Direct Delivery

Sponsor a Place: fund one young person's full place on a leadership programme, from start to finish.

Sponsor a Cohort: fund a full group of ten to fifteen young people through a programme cycle.

Sponsor a Session: cover the cost of one workshop: facilitator time, venue, and materials for a single day.

Sponsor a School Visit: fund a full leadership tour stop at one named school or youth group.

Progression and Continuity

A Residential: fund a multi-day expedition, the most immersive experience we run and the one that builds the most self-belief.

A Follow-On Pathway: keep in contact with a young person after their programme ends, so progress does not stall.

An Emergency Fund: cover last-minute costs, clothing, travel, food on the day, that would otherwise stop someone attending.

Equipment and Kit

Kit for Participants: waterproofs, boots, and rucksacks, so cost is never the reason a young person cannot take part.

Safety Equipment: first-aid and safety kit for sessions held outdoors.

Transport: minibus hire or fuel to get young people to and from sessions.

People and Expertise

A Mentor's Time: fund a facilitator or mentor for a term or a full year.

Specialist Input: bring in a counsellor, careers advisor, or qualified outdoor instructor for a specific need.

Accreditation: cover training and qualification costs, so a programme leaves a young person with something recognised, not just an experience.
